Conan. The name along inspires visions of powerful warriors going toe-to-toe in epic battles in the Hyborian age. Funcom's Age of Conan does a good job at bringing Robert E. Howard's ideas to life with a full-fledged MMO based on the popular franchise. In many ways, it is the first truly adult main-steam MMORPG, packed with nudity, violence, and, well, more violence. Players will battle large creatures (and, of course, other players) in brutal battles that will leave headless bodies cast around the battlefield.
Beyond being different in the scope, the actual gameplay of Age of Conan is a bit unique as well. It's action-packed, and relies on more skill than most click-and-wait games in the genre. Players will be swinging weapons by clicking, and blocking incoming blows manually. Considering the source material, this is a great change to make, and it's good to see Funcom take a chance at trying to create something new.
Sadly, it's not all perfect. After the initial set of quests the game's content is light, and the further players delve into Hyboria the less they find to do. If you're not interested in joining a guild and battling other players for a majority of you're time, it might be best to look elsewhere. If this sounds alluring, however, then grab a sword, and prepare to enter one of the more fulfilling battles you'll fight.
