“Lineage” is the first of the major Asian MMORPGs. Inspired largely by “NetHack,” it is a 2D isometric MMORPG with graphics similar to “Ultima Online” and “Diablo II.” The MMORPG features five classes: Elf, Dark Elf, Knight, Prince, and Magician.

Gameplay is largely based on castle sieges, and owning a castle lets the owner set taxes in neighboring towns and cities. Bloodpledges (guilds) are a necessitous for sieging castles, and the Prince class is the only class that can create one.
